This Course aims to address contemporary issues in consumer law, especially within the digital economy. Key topics include the new Consumer Protection Act, 2019, the operational experiences of the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), and provisions related to product liability, mediation, and other mechanisms under the new law that promise to protect consumer interests. Additionally, the Course will explore challenges arising from the digital economy, such as e-commerce, digital transactions, dark patterns and online consumer protection. It will also examine the role of other regulatory bodies like FSSAI, RBI, CCI, TRAI, SEBI, and IRDAI in safeguarding consumer rights. Emphasizing the synergy between consumer law education and its practical application, one of the Course themes will focus on real-world aspects of consumer law. Renowned academics, policymakers, regulators, practitioners, and representatives from leading universities, think-tanks, and VCOs will serve as resource persons for the Course.
