MARS (Madras Animal Rescue Society) is an NGO working towards animal welfare
Started by Sarah And Gerry in 2019, MARS began to commence operations by rescuing injured and sick dogs and rehabilitating them in our homes.
With time, we began to widen our area of operations and started to take an active part in Animal Birth Control (ABC) and conduct vaccination camps in some of the remote villages of Mahabalipuram.
As an offshoot of all these rescue and rehabilitation efforts, Daaman was established in the same year 2019. Daaman is a dog shelter exclusively set up to help old, blind, paraplegic and handicapped dogs.
The shelter is home to more than 200 dogs; of which 70 of them are paraplegic adults and 20 of them paraplegic puppies.
Some of these dogs were reported to us from different districts like Kanchipuram and Mahabalipuram and were also found in horrific conditions. Today, they all live a life of contentment and meaning here at the shelter.
The average operation cost of running our shelter amounts to 3L per month. This does not include the costs of vet treatments, ongoing rescues, vaccinations and also medical bills for the dogs that are present at the shelter.
Any contributions towards easing our burden on operational expenses would help us branch out our area of work and attend to many more dogs that are in dire need of our help.
