Gift a Hygienic Workplace to Green Workers in Dharamshala
Build a Toilet at the Material Recovery Facility
Over just the past year and a half, our collaborative efforts with local government have transformed waste management for almost half of Dharamshala! It is an important spiritual and environmentally-sensitive tourist destination. To provide a perspective, tourism in Himachal Pradesh contributes >7% to the state GDP and the tourist influx stood at ~15 million in 2022, almost twice of the local population.
From household behaviour change initiatives to establishing a robust Material Recovery Facility (MRF) processing 1.5 metric tonnes of dry waste daily, we have made significant strides in ensuring a cleaner city. In the last one year, we have managed to divert over 270 MT* of waste from landfills, rivers, mountains and forests.
At Waste Warriors, we believe in providing a safe and dignified working environment for all our Green Workers. Unfortunately, our team at the Material Recovery Facility in Dharamshala has been operating without a proper toilet. This basic necessity is crucial for the health, comfort, and dignity of Green Workers (Safai Saathis) who manually segregate dry waste. Green Workers usually come from socio-economically marginalised backgrounds.
Our Goal: To raise funds to construct a fully equipped toilet facility (two separate units-- one for men and women each) at the Material Recovery Facility in Dharamshala.
